Getting Started

Avenza AI is built for researchers who already have a questionnaire and want a live survey fast โ€” without rebuilding every question by hand.

Account setup & sign-in

Start by creating a free Avenza account. You can register with email and password, or sign in with Google. After registration, verify your email โ€” unverified accounts cannot sign in.

1

Create your account

Go to Register, enter your name and email, choose a strong password, and complete the security check. You'll receive a verification email within a minute.

2

Verify your email

Open the link in your inbox. If it expires, use the resend option on the login page. Once verified, sign in and you'll land on your dashboard.

3

Complete your profile (optional)

From the dashboard sidebar, open your profile to update your name and institution. This appears on exports and reports where relevant.

Tip: Forgot your password? Use Forgot password on the sign-in page. A reset link is sent to your email and expires after one hour.

Plans, pricing & welcome offer

Avenza uses pay-per-survey activation rather than a monthly subscription. Prices are shown in Nigerian Naira (โ‚ฆ) for users in Nigeria, and US Dollars ($) for international users โ€” detected automatically from your location.

Plan Nigeria (NGN) International (USD) What's included
Welcome activation Free (first survey) Free (first survey) Upload or create manually โ€” live link, response collection, dashboard charts, CSV & Excel export
Upload / Create โ‚ฆ1,500 $2 Word/PDF parse or manual builder โ€” publish, host, share, collect, charts, CSV & Excel
Generate with AI โ‚ฆ2,500 $3 AI-built questionnaire from your research topic + everything in Upload/Create
Quantitative Analysis โ‚ฆ5,000 $5 Full AI-assisted Word report for closed-ended and scale data โ€” purchased after responses arrive
Thematic Analysis โ‚ฆ10,000 $10 AI-assisted thematic synthesis for open-ended responses โ€” purchased when you need qualitative insight
Current phase: Quantitative Analysis (โ‚ฆ5,000) and Thematic Analysis (โ‚ฆ10,000) are available now as add-ons after you collect responses. Coming in a later phase: Inferential Analysis and Advanced Thematic Analysis โ€” pricing will be determined dynamically based on scope, data type, and volume. See Pricing for the latest.

Your first survey โ€” three paths

Most researchers start with an existing questionnaire. Avenza supports three creation paths from the dashboard:

A

Upload a questionnaire (recommended)

Click Upload New Questionnaire on your dashboard. Upload a Word (.docx) or PDF (.pdf) file. Avenza AI parses your document, detects question types, and opens the Survey Builder for review. Plain-text uploads are not supported.

B

Create manually

Choose Create manually to start with a blank survey. Add questions one by one in the builder โ€” useful when you're designing from scratch without a document.

C

Generate with AI

Choose Generate with AI, enter your research topic and optional objectives, and Avenza drafts a full structured questionnaire. Review and edit every question before publishing.

After parsing or generation, you'll always review questions in the Survey Builder before publishing. Payment is required at publish time (unless you're using your free welcome activation).

Guest preview: You can upload and preview a questionnaire without an account from the landing page. Sign in or register to save, publish, and collect responses.

Survey Builder

The Survey Builder is where you review AI-parsed questions, fix wording, adjust types, configure settings, preview the respondent experience, and publish your live link.

Builder layout

The builder has three main areas:

  • Left panel โ€” Parse confidence breakdown, question type counts, and document statistics from your upload.
  • Centre canvas โ€” Your survey title, introduction/consent text, and editable question list.
  • Right panel โ€” Survey settings, activation plan, and the Publish button.

Question types

Avenza detects and supports the question types commonly used in academic and professional research:

Type When to use Builder notes
Likert scale Attitude, agreement, or frequency items (Strongly Disagree โ†’ Strongly Agree) Likert items are automatically grouped into clusters when parsed from your document. Edit scale labels and item text individually.
Multiple choice Single or multiple selection from fixed options Add, remove, or reorder options. Set whether respondents can pick one or several answers.
Open-ended Free-text responses, explanations, or qualitative data Ideal for follow-up questions. Open-ended responses can be analysed with Thematic Analysis (โ‚ฆ10,000 add-on).
Demographic / factual Age, gender, department, years of experience, etc. Often used as filter variables in cross-tabulation and descriptive breakdowns.
Rating / numeric Scores on a numeric scale (e.g. 1โ€“10) Set min, max, and step values in the question editor.

Editing questions

  • Click any question card to expand and edit its text, type, and options.
  • Questions flagged Medium or Low confidence during parsing should be reviewed before publishing.
  • Use Add Question to insert new items anywhere in the list.
  • Drag questions to reorder them (or use the move controls).
  • Update the Introduction & Informed Consent section โ€” respondents see this before answering.
Important: Always review AI-parsed questions before publishing. AI is highly accurate on structured questionnaires but may misclassify unusual formatting. Your review ensures data quality.

Survey settings

Configure these in the right panel before publishing:

  • Survey title (URL slug) โ€” Creates your public link, e.g. avenzaai.com/s/your-study-title. Use a short, readable slug.
  • Response limit โ€” Set a maximum number of responses, or leave as Unlimited.
  • Close date โ€” Automatically stop accepting responses after a date.
  • Allow anonymous responses โ€” When on, respondent identity is not collected.
  • One response per device โ€” Prevents duplicate submissions from the same browser/device.
  • Show progress bar โ€” Displays completion progress to respondents during the survey.

Preview before publishing

Click Preview in the top bar to open the respondent view in a new tab. Walk through every question as your participants will see it. Check consent text, question order, and mobile layout.

Publishing checklist

Before you hit Publish, confirm each item below:

  • โœ“Survey title and introduction/consent text are complete and accurate
  • โœ“All Medium/Low confidence questions have been reviewed and corrected
  • โœ“Likert scales use consistent anchor labels across related items
  • โœ“Multiple-choice options are exhaustive and mutually clear
  • โœ“URL slug is readable and professional
  • โœ“Response limit and close date match your study protocol
  • โœ“Preview tested on mobile and desktop
  • โœ“Activation plan selected (Upload/Create or AI Generate) and payment ready

Click Publish & Get Link. After successful payment (or free welcome activation), your survey goes live immediately. Copy the share link from the dashboard or builder and distribute it to participants via email, WhatsApp, LMS, or QR code.

Autosave: The builder saves your draft locally as you edit. Sign in to persist drafts to your account. Unpublished changes are not visible to respondents.

Analytics & Exports

Once responses arrive, use the Analytics dashboard to explore charts, cross-tabulations, AI-assisted insights, and downloadable reports.

Accessing analytics

From your dashboard, click a survey card or open Analytics from the sidebar. Select the survey you want to analyse. Basic charts and response counts are available as soon as responses arrive โ€” no extra purchase required for chart viewing on activated surveys.

Charts & dashboards

The Analytics page provides interactive visualisations for each question:

  • Frequency bar charts โ€” For categorical and Likert items, showing response distribution.
  • Summary statistics โ€” Mean, median, standard deviation for numeric and scale items.
  • Cross-tabulation โ€” Compare responses across demographic or grouping variables.
  • Completion metrics โ€” Response rate, drop-off points, and average completion time.
  • AI Research Intelligence โ€” AI-assisted narrative summaries of key findings (clearly labelled as AI-assisted).
Tip: Likert items are displayed as clustered groups in charts, matching how they appear in your questionnaire. This makes scale interpretation easier for supervisors and committee reviewers.

Quantitative Analysis Word report

The full AI-assisted Quantitative Analysis report is a separate add-on (โ‚ฆ5,000 / $5). Purchase it from the Analytics page after you have collected responses and closed or paused collection. This is for closed-ended, Likert, and numeric data.

The Word report typically includes:

  • Study overview and methodology summary
  • Discussion of results with interpretation of key patterns
  • Relationships between variables where applicable
  • Implications for practice, policy, or further research
  • Limitations and recommendations
Note: The full Word report is downloaded โ€” it is not previewed on-screen before download. This protects report integrity. For open-ended data, use Thematic Analysis (โ‚ฆ10,000). Inferential Analysis and Advanced Thematic Analysis are planned for a future phase with scope-based pricing.

CSV & Excel exports

Raw data exports are included with survey activation โ€” no additional purchase needed:

  • CSV export โ€” One row per respondent, one column per question. Compatible with SPSS, R, Python, and Excel.
  • Excel export (.xlsx) โ€” Formatted spreadsheet with question labels in the header row, ready for further analysis or sharing with supervisors.

Export from the Analytics page or Reports section. Large surveys (thousands of responses) export in seconds. If you hit a size limit, use the contact form.

Analysis add-ons (current phase)

Add-on Price (NGN / USD) Best for Deliverable
Quantitative Analysis โ‚ฆ5,000 / $5 Thesis Chapter 4, management reports, policy briefs โ€” closed-ended & scale data Downloadable Word report with AI-assisted interpretation of patterns, relationships, and implications
Thematic Analysis โ‚ฆ10,000 / $10 Open-ended responses, interview-style items, qualitative follow-ups Theme coding, synthesis, and narrative report from open-text responses
Coming later: Inferential Analysis (hypothesis testing, regression, advanced statistics) and Advanced Thematic Analysis (deeper qualitative synthesis) will be introduced in a future phase. Pricing will be calculated dynamically based on the scope of work, data type, and volume.
